Akashi Kaikyo Bridge And Maiko Marine Promenade

World's Longest Suspension Bridge

The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge spans the Akashi Strait between downtown Kobe and Awaji Island, and at 3,911 meters in length, it is currently the longest suspension bridge in the world. There is a Maiko Marine Promenade at a height of 47 meters above the sea, and its transparent glass floor is the greatest challenge to your mind.

The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge 明石海峡大橋 spans the Akashi Strait between downtown Kobe and Awaji Island, with a total length of 3,911 meters, and is currently the World's Longest Suspension Bridge. The construction of the bridge officially began in 1988 and took 10 years to complete, linking Honshu Island, Awaji Island, and Naruto of Shikoku.

Manywhere Trivia:
The 298.3 meters tall Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is taller than the Yokohama Landmark Building, and currently only the Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and Osaka Abeno Harukas 300 can exceed its height in Japan.

Inside the bridge, which is 47 meters above the sea, a 150-meter-long scenic walkway called Maiko Marine Promenade has been created specifically for visitors. The walk not only overlooks the Kobe coastline, but also allows visitors to see the Steel Frame Structure of the Bridge up close. The biggest selling point of the Maiko Marine Promenade is a section of the Transparent Glass Floor, which requires a lot of courage to stand on it as if you were walking on a cloud.

Manywhere Trivia:
The Great Hanshin Earthquake made the main pier span of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge longer, from 1990 meters to 1991 meters.

The Hyogo Prefectural Maiko Park 舞子公園 on the Kobe city side of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is the best place to see the bridge in all its glory, with its white sandy beaches and historical sights such as Ijokaku, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. The Dream Lens Stone Sculpture in the park is a symbol of the area, and the view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge through the round hole of the stone sculpture is popular in postcards and tourist pictures.
