Anella Olimpica de Montjuic

The 1992 Olympic Games Barcelona

In 1992, Spain successfully held the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Catalonia. The Anella Olímpica is located at the top of Montjuïc Hill, with facilities such as the Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, and the Montjuïc Communications Tower. After the Olympic Games, it was opened to the public as an Olympic Park Barcelona.

In 1992, the 25th Summer Olympic Games were held in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and were regarded as, in the words of the then President of the Olympic Committee, Mr. Samaranch, “the Most Successful Olympic Games ever”.

The Anella Olímpica (Olympic Ring), located at the top of the Montjuïc Hill on the Mediterranean coast, is a beautiful place far from the hustle and bustle. It has landmarks and venues such as the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium, the Palau Sant Jordi, the Montjuïc Communications Tower, open-air diving platforms, and swimming pools.

The Montjuïc Olympic Stadium (Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys) was originally the venue of the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition. The stadium was later transformed into a stadium with a capacity of 60,000 people. Those who watched the live broadcast of the opening ceremony will remember the image of the Spanish archer lighting the Olympic Flame with a flaming arrow.

The Palau Sant Jordi (St. George's Palace) on the south side of the main stadium was the venue for the Olympic indoor events, such as gymnastics and volleyball. The stadium was designed by Japanese designer Arata Isozaki, the Pritzker Architecture Prize winner in 2019.

Manywhere Trivia:
No one shone brighter at the Barcelona Olympics than the American Basketball Dream Team made up of NBA stars, averaging 43.8 points over their opponents in eight games, with an ultra-fantasy lineup including Air Jordan, Johnson, Malone, Ewing, Barkley, Larry Bird, David Robinson, Pippen.

Dream Team One

The 136-meter-tall Montjuïc Communications Tower was built for the Olympic TV feeds, and the tall, white tower is considered an Olympic icon. After the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the Anella Olímpica at the top of Montjuïc Hill was transformed into the Barcelona Olympic Park, which is open to the public free of charge.
