Hindu Temple and Monkey Kingdom

Batu Caves is the collective name for a series of natural limestone caves located 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, which is an important Hindu sanctuary in Kuala Lumpur. The Temple Cave, the most important one of the Batu Caves, is over 100 meters high and contains Hindu temples and numerous idols.

Located 13 kilometers north of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Caves is the collective name of a series of Natural Limestone Caves, the most famous of which is the Temple Cave, surrounded by Dark Cave, Ramayana Cave, and other large and small caves.

Batu Caves is an important Hindu Sanctuary in Kuala Lumpur, a 43m Tall Murugan Statue in front of the temple cave is said to have taken more than ten craftsmen three years to build. Next to the statue is a total of 272 Colored Steps, a challenge that must be overcome before reaching the top to see the true face of the temple cave.

Even if it’s not raining outside, water can drip down inside the Batu Caves from time to time, so it’s a good idea to bring an umbrella with you.

The Temple Cave at the top of the steps is the best part of Batu Caves, with a height of over 100 meters. There are several Hindu Temples built inside the Temple Cave, and a number of deities can also be found nearby.

The Thaipusam Festival, which takes place between January and February, is a traditional festival celebrating the birth of Murugan. Every year during the Thaipusam Festival, hundreds of thousands and even millions of devotees gather in Batu Caves to celebrate.

Be prepared to see devotees doing mortification of the flesh by piercing the skin, tongue, or cheeks with vel skewers in Thaipusam Festival.

Masters of the Cave

At Batu Caves, you can see groups of Long-tailed Macaques everywhere, and these monkeys are not only unafraid of people, but they will also actively grab food from visitors, as if they are the real masters of the cave.
