Beijing Olympic Park

Unforgettable 2008

The Olympic Green is located along the northern part of Beijing's central axis and is the central area for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. It not only has important Olympic venues such as the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube, but also has auxiliary facilities and venues such as the Linglong Tower, the Sunken Garden, and the Olympic Forest Park.

The Olympic Green, or Beijing Olympic Park, located along the northern axis of Beijing, is the central area of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, featuring several major Olympic venues and vast green areas that are great places for athletes and citizens to exercise and relax.

When it comes to Olympic venues, the most famous ones here are Bird’s Nest, Water Cube and Linglong Tower. The Bird's Nest, Beijing National Stadium is the main venue of Beijing Olympic Games 2008, holding the opening and closing ceremonies and important competitions such as soccer and athletics. The Water Cube, Beijing National Aquatics Center took on water sports competitions including swimming, diving and water polo. The Linglong Tower, which was used as the Olympic TV broadcasting tower, attracted many visitors with its glass exterior and geometric shape.

Main Stadium for Beijing Olympics

The Beijing National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, was the main stadium for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics were held. Its interlocking steel frames resemble the shape of a nest, hence the name "Bird's Nest".

The 42.195 kilometers racecourse of the 2016 Beijing Marathon started from Tiananmen Square and finished at Celebration Square in Landscape Boulevard of the Olympic Green.

A Sunken garden on the north side of the venue area is a string of seven courtyards, including the Ancient Wooden Flower Hall, the Ritual Gates, and the Watermark Skyscape, exhibiting Old Beijing Courtyard, Ancient Rites and Music and other traditional Chinese culture to visitors from all over the world. There is also an Olympic Forest Park with a total area of 680 hectares, with flowers and green plants in all seasons, plastic running tracks of different lengths. The Olympic Forest Park is open to the public for free.
