Berlin Victory Column

Statue of Goddess Victoria

The Berlin Victory Column is located in the center of a roundabout in Berlin's Tiergarten Park and is topped by a bronze statue of Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, commemorating the victory of the German War of Unification in the 19th century. A viewing platform is located 51 meters above the ground.

In the Tiergarten Park, just outside the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, there is a 67 Meters High Victory Column (Siegessäule) that stands in the middle of the roundabout at the Great Star Square (Großer Stern), with five straight avenues radiating out from the column as its center.

The Victory Column was built to celebrate the victories in the German unification wars (the 1864 Danish-Prussian War, the 1866 Austro-Prussian War, and the 1870 Franco-Prussian War) and is topped by a Bronze Statue of Victoria, Goddess of Victory. The statue is 8.3 meters high, weighs 35 tons, wears an eagle’s helmet, holds a scepter in her left hand and a laurel wreath in her right hand.

Manywhere Trivia:
In July 2008, Barack Obama gave a speech under the Victory Column and was elected within six months. Maybe he was blessed by the Victory Goddess.

There are Four Large Reliefs surrounding the column, depicting victorious scenes from several wars, each of which is said to have been made from cannons captured during the war. A spiral staircase of 285 steps inside the column leads to an open-air viewing platform at a height of 51 meters.

Next to the Victory Column, there is also a Statue of Otto von Bismarck commemorating the Iron and Blood Chancellor of Germany, with Atlas, Siegfried, and other gods kneeled at his feet.
