Kulangsu

Kulangsu Island (Gulangyu) is an outlying island of Xiamen (Amoy) City, the nearest distance between Kulangsu Island and Xiamen Island is less than 500 meters. Kulangsu Island was once a public concession in the early 20th century, there are still a lot of Western-style buildings on the island, known as the “architectural complex of all nations”.

Architecture of All Nations

As a public concession, Kulangsu Island is favored by Western countries, and countries such as Britain, the United States and Germany have built consulates, churches and other buildings on the island, most of which have been preserved intact. The most eye-catching building on the island is the octagonal dome built by the Banqiao Lin family of Taiwan, which can be seen even across the sea from Xiamen.

Beautiful Kulangsu Island

Half of the beauty of Kulangsu Island lies in its architecture, and the other half lies in its natural scenery: the Shuzhuang Garden which blends the mountains and the sea, the Sunlight Rock that overlooks the island, the statue of Zheng Chenggong and Bright Moon Park (Haoyue Park), plus countless beaches and parks.
