Luzhi, formerly known as Fuli, is located 25 kilometers east of Suzhou City. The ancient town of Luzhi has more than 40 ancient bridges, and is known as “The #1 Watertown of China”.

The Origin of “Luzhi”

There are many theories as to the origin of the Chinese name “Lu Zhi”, which was first called “Fuli”. Some people say that the beast Luduan used to hang around Fuli and blessed the place with good weather conditions, so the name Luzhi was given. It is also said that Lu Guimeng, a Tang Dynasty poet, used to live here in seclusion and was called Mr. Fuli, so the town was named Luzhi after his surname “Lu”. It’s a good idea to listen to the stories and legends of the old town, as they all combine local history and customs.
