Gateway Between East And West Japan
Nagoya, the capital of Aichi Prefecture, is the third-largest city in Japan and is located in the center of Honshu Island. It is the birthplace of Oda Nobunaga, a Japanese warlord, and Nagoya is also the home base of the Tokugawa family. Today, Nagoya is the gateway between eastern and western Japan, with the historic Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Jingu Shrine, as well as modern tourist facilities such as the Nagoya City Science Museum and the SCMAGLEV and Railway Park.
Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine are two of Nagoya’s major landmarks. Nagoya Castle, with its incomparable Tenshukaku and Honmaru Palace, is a symbol of traditional Japanese architecture, along with Kyoto’s Nijo Castle. Atsuta Jingu Shrine houses the Kusanagi Sword (草薙の剣), one of Japan’s three sacred artifacts, is second only to Ise Jingu Shrine.
