Wupeng Boat with Memories
Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province, bordered by Hangzhou in the west and Ningbo in the east, is the hometown of Lu Xun. 4,000 years ago, Yu the Great was buried here in the Mausoleum of Yu at Kuaijishan of Shaoxing, for his achievement in fighting the flood. His descendants established the state of Yue, thus Shaoxing has been considered as the cradle of Yue culture since.
As a modern Chinese literary scholar, Lu Xun was born in Shaoxing, he had described his hometown as a young boy in many of his works. Through his articles such as “From Baicao Garden to the House of Three Flavors”, “Hometown” and “Village Opera”, we meet Lu Xun’s lively and active childhood. We also get to know Runtu, a simple and brave young boy as a friend of young Lu Xun, and see how the feudal ideology bounded and imprisoned ordinary people at that time.
