Mount Tai is the head of the Five Mountains. Tai’an, located at the foot of the mountain, is named after it, which is said to have existed in ancient times. Since the Dai Temple (Temple of Mount Tai) was first built in the Han Dynasty, countless monarchs have come to worship the mountain gods and hold ceremonies, and Tai’an has gradually become the gateway to the guardianship of Mount Tai.
The main peak of Mount Tai is 1,545 meters above sea level and has been considered the closest place to heaven for a long time. Mount Tai is also a famous geopark in China, with many cultural attractions such as cliff carvings and Taoist temples.
The Spirit of Qi Lu
Located in Tai'an, Shandong Province, China, Mount Taishan of The East has been considered to be the head of the Five Great Mountains since ancient times. It has become a tradition for emperors to come to Mount Taishan to offer sacrifices and prayers to heaven. Cliff rock carvings, Taoist temples and other ancient monuments can be seen everywhere in the scenic area, and Mount Taishan is a famous national geological park, too.
Mount Tai plays an extremely special religious role in Chinese history, as ancient emperors came here to worship the heaven and the earth in order to consolidate their dominance. The Dai Temple in Tai’an began in the Han Dynasty, which was used by various monarchs to hold ceremonies. The temple consists of the Hall of Heavenly Bestowal, copper pavilion, iron pagoda, etc. The Cypress trees dating from the Han Dynasty and inscriptions on stone tablets are the best witnesses of its history. Besides, Mount Tai’s Bixia Yuanjun Shrine, Jade Emperor’s Peak and Qing Di Palace are also attractive and not to be missed.
