Romantic Golden Sunsets
Tamsui is located at the northernmost tip of the island of Taiwan, with a Tamsui River running through and tributaries covering the northern part of the island, including Taipei, Keelung and Taoyuan. Tamsui has been one of Taiwan’s Eight Views since ancient times, the Golden Riverside, Fort San Domingo and Tamsui Old Street are the most popular attractions.
The mouth of the Tamsui River has a wide surface, and the sunset here every day turns the water into a golden color, giving it the nickname “Golden Riverside”. The Tamsui Old Street near the waterfront has been maintained as it was in the old days, with popular shops on both sides of the street.
Built by the Spanish in Tamsui in 1629, the Fort San Domingo (紅毛城) is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Taiwan. The brick-red two-story building has a European architectural style and is a popular tourist spot in Tamsui.
