Sleep by the Sound of A Stream
Wuzhen is an ancient water town, located at the junction of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, with 7,000 years of civilization, beautiful land and outstanding people.
The history of Wuzhen can be traced back to the Majiabang culture in the Neolithic period 7000 years ago. During the Spring and Autumn Period, this place was on the border between Wu and Yue. Wu once stationed its troops here, hence the ancient name of “Wu Garrison”, also known as “Wu Dun”.
Wuzhen is divided into four areas by two waterways, the east and west of the town are the main sightseeing areas. Wuzhen’s water system is highly developed, and man-powered boats are the most popular transportation, which leads to a unique water market.
Indigo fabrics are dyed with natural plant pigments and painted with flower patterns. Wuzhen is famous for its indigo fabric workshops, including Hongyuantai Dyehouse in the east and Caomubense Dyehouse in the west.
In order to show the local customs of Wuzhen, many old mansions have been converted into characteristic exhibition halls with old artifacts in different categories.
As the most well-developed ancient water town in southern China, Wuzhen is not only equipped with boutique hotels and restaurants, but also has Grand Theater, Xiuzhenguan ancient stage, art galleries, and even open-air movies can be watched here, which are now extinct in many places.
