Early Spring Breeze in Yangzhou
Located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, Yangzhou was once a busy trade port in China. It has beautiful scenery and many garden attractions such as the Slender West Lake. Yangzhou often appears in ancient poems, which express the praise and yearning for this attractive city.
Historically, Yangzhou is one of the richest regions in China. Since the Sui and Tang dynasties, Yangzhou has been an important trade center, with many wealthy merchants gathering here. The city of Yangzhou has seen a succession of exquisite private gardens, and at its peak, there were more than a hundred private gardens on both sides of the Slender West Lake.
In ancient times, Buddhist temples were popular in bustling cities, and Yangzhou is no exception. Yangzhou Daming Temple was built in the Southern Dynasty, the famous Venerable Jianzhen was born in Yangzhou, he served as the abbot of Daming Temple before he came to Japan. Yangzhou Gao Min Temple is one of the four major Zen Buddhist Temples in China, the name of the temple was bestowed by the Kangxi Emperor when he traveled here.
