The city of Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province is composed of 1,390 islands, which is the key point on the sea near Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai provinces. Zhoushan is a famous natural fishing port of China, Mount Putuo, Zhujiajian, Shengsi Island and Taohua Island are all famous tourist attractions.

Mount Putuo is one of the four Buddhist mountains in China and the most famous scenic area in Zhoushan, known as the Sanctuary of Guanyin. There are many Buddhist temples on the island, with Puji Temple, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple being the top three.

Witness Buddhism in a Seaside Paradise

Mount Putuo is one of the 1,000 islands in Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province, across the sea from Zhujiajian and Shenjiamen fishing ports. Mount Putuo is the only one of the four famous Buddhist mountains in China that is located in the sea, and is known as the "Divine Buddhist Kingdom on the Sea".

Shenjiamen Fishing Port is the largest natural fishing port in China, and one of the three largest fishing ports in the world, together with Bergen in Norway and Callao in Peru.

Key to East China Sea

Zhoushan is located at the estuary of the Yangtze, Qiantang and Yong rivers, and has been the gateway to the East China Sea since ancient times. Due to its important military advantages, Zhoushan became the main battlefield of the First Opium War. In the Battle of Dinghai, General Ge Yunfei, Wang Xipeng and Zheng Guohong were all killed and Zhoushan fell into the hands of the British. Today, the Zhoushan Opium War Memorial Museum still records the history of that period.
