Living a Life Called Zhouzhuang
Zhouzhuang is located in the southernmost part of Kunshan City, Jiangsu Province. The famous painter Chen Yifei created “Memories of Hometown” on the theme of Zhouzhuang Twin Bridges, which made the ancient town famous at home and abroad.
Zhouzhuang’s waterway network is dense, you can see a couple of bridges in a short distance, these bridges were built in different ages and appearances. The most famous bridge in Zhouzhuang is the “Double-Bridge”, named Shi De Bridge and Yong An Bridge, they are perpendicular to each other like an ancient key shape.
Shen Wansan was a man of the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties who was said to be incredibly wealthy, and the prosperity of Zhouzhuang had a lot to do with him. Today in Zhouzhuang still retains the Shen Hall built by the descendants of the Shen family, as well as Shen Wansan water tomb and former residence. Even Zhu Yuanzhang asked him for financial support when building the city of Nanjing. By cheating Shen Wansan of a treasure bowl, the construction of the Gate of China was finally completed.
