Flamboyant Gothic Architecture
The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula was built in 1047 in the Flaming Gothic style. The church is dedicated to the two patron saints of Brussels, St. Michael and St. Gudula. The religious carvings and the colorful windows are the main attractions of the church, and there is an exhibition of treasures inside.
The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula is located in the heart of Brussels, just a few minutes from Brussels Central Station. The church was built in 1047 in the Brabantine Gothic Style with 64 Meters High Twin Towers, the exterior bears some resemblance to Notre Dame de Paris and is currently used as the seat of the local Archbishop.
When you enter the church nave, you will be attracted by the rich Religious Carvings and Stained Glass Windows. The Twelve Apostles of Jesus, created by a famous 17th-century sculptor, is placed on top of twelve cylindrical columns, with lifelike saints holding gilded sacred vessels in a solemn manner.
Inside the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula, there is also Exhibition of Treasures from the Church Collection. For an inexpensive entrance fee, you can see the 10th-century crucifixes and paintings by famous artists.
