Charlottenburg Palace - New Wing

Unforgettable Rococo-style Decor

Between 1740 and 1745, Frederick the Great of Prussia added a new wing to the east side of the Old Palace of Charlottenburg Palace. In the New Wing there are several rooms decorated in the rococo style, two banqueting halls, the Golden Gallery and the White Hall, as well as the living quarters of the members of the royal family.

Between 1740 and 1745, Frederick the Great of Prussia (Frederick II) added a Two-Story Wing Building to the east side of the Old Palace of Charlottenburg Palace, the architecture is in accordance with the Old Palace and is known as the New Wing.

The Golden Gallery and the White Hall are two ballrooms in the New Wing, both of which are not to be missed. The Golden Gallery has 42 meters of extra-long space and extremely elaborate decorations, compared to the White Hall, which is more austere and restrained. For those interested in Rococo Decorative Arts, there are also several rooms in the New Wing, used as Frederick the Great’s parlors, filled with unforgettable patterns and textures.

After the New Wing was built, several members of the Prussian royal family, including Frederick the Great, lived there. The building now has rooms such as Frederick II's Living Quarters and Bedchamber of Queen Luise. Queen Luise was the wife of Frederick William III, she was buried in The Royal Mausoleum in the Gardens of Charlottenburg Palace.

Manywhere Trivia:
Frederick the Great was a fan of palaces, and even drew up his own plans for the Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam.

Many of the rooms in the New Wing display Paintings from the Royal Collection, mostly 19th-century French paintings, many of which are world-famous, such as “Napoleon Crossing the Alps”.
