Magnificent Prussian Palace

The Old Palace is the main exhibition area of the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, first built at the end of the 17th century and first owned by King Frederick I and Queen Charlotte. The Porcelain Cabinet and chapel in the Old Palace reflect the life of the royal family. There is an exhibition of royal collections of gold, silver and crowns.

The Old Palace is the main exhibition area of the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, located in the main building on the central axis of the Charlottenburg Palace. The Old Palace was built at the end of the 17th century and used to be The Summer Palace of the King and Queen of Prussia. In 1705, after the untimely death of Queen Charlotte, King Frederick I renamed the palace Charlottenburg in honor of his late wife.

The gilded goddess Fortuna on the dome roof of the palace is not just an ornament, also a weathervane.

The Old Palace of Charlottenburg was influenced by Versailles, France and was decorated inside and out in Baroque and Rococo Styles. Chinese porcelain and ceramic ornaments from China can be found all over the Old Palace, and there is even a Porcelain Cabinet decorated with thousands of porcelain pieces.

The Old Palace will give you an insight into the court life of the Prussian royal family, with a palace full of portraits of nobles, you can see the Bedchamber of Frederick I and the Chapel where the royal wedding took place. The exhibition area located on the second floor contains Goldware, Silverware, Crowns and other royal artifacts that symbolize power.

European aristocrats’ tables have always been full of gold and silver, one advantage is that they can be melted down and exchanged for money, as Frederick the Great did twice to finance his wars.

In 1740 Frederick the Great (Frederick II) added a New Wing to the east side of the Old Palace, with an unforgettable 42-meter-long Golden Gallery.

Unforgettable Rococo-style Decor

Between 1740 and 1745, Frederick the Great of Prussia added a new wing to the east side of the Old Palace of Charlottenburg Palace. In the New Wing there are several rooms decorated in the rococo style, two banqueting halls, the Golden Gallery and the White Hall, as well as the living quarters of the members of the royal family.

Summer House in the Palace Garden

The New Pavilion of the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin is located in the palace garden, next to the New Wing. Built in 1825 as a summer residence by Friedrich Wilhelm III, the New Pavilion exhibits paintings and artworks by local artists.
