Iconic Modern Library
The cubic structure of the Stuttgart City Library houses reading rooms, a multimedia room, a reading area for children, and a reading area for young people. There is an empty meditative space in the center of the building, and the reading rooms on the fifth to eighth floors look chic in white with colorful books.
The Stadtbibliothek Stuttgart, or Stuttgart City Library, is regarded as One of the Most Beautiful Modern Libraries in the World, and the cube-shaped building has 9×9 window units neatly lined up on the four facades, with the word “Library” written on all four sides in German, Korean, English, and Arabic.
At the center of the library is an Empty Meditative Space, which is called the Heart by its Korean architect Eun Young Yi. The Heart is 14 meters high and runs from the first floor to the fourth floor, with only artificial and natural light from the ceiling. The Heart is said to be inspired by The Pantheon in Rome, Italy.
The Stuttgart City Library has separate spaces for reading, multimedia, newspaper reading, and media collections, as well as a separate Children's Reading Area and young adult reading area for children.
The reading room on the fifth to eighth floors is the core area of the library, with white as the main color and pure white bookshelves highlighting the colorful book covers, making people reluctant to leave. The reading room has Translucent Structure in the Center, where light from the roof penetrates through the glass to the lower levels, provide good lighting for the Heart.
