Work of a Master Architect
In 1926, Swiss businessman Ehrismann hired architect Antonin Raymond to build a wooden two-story Western-style villa for himself. The first floor has a living room, dining room, and drawing room, while the second floor, which originally had three bedrooms, has been converted into showrooms for the Yamate Western-style Buildings.
Fritz Ehrismann, a Swiss businessman who was the manager of the Yokohama branch of the silk company Siber Hegner in the early 20th century, hired architect Antonin Raymond in 1925 to build his own private residence, the Ehrismann Residence エリスマン邸, which was completed the following year.
The Two-story Western-style Wooden Villa is designed by Czech architect Antonin Raymond, who is known as one of the fathers of modern architecture in Japan. The exterior of the residence is clad in wooden panels horizontally and vertically, with modernist elements in the roof, chimney, balcony, and blinds.
Manywhere Trivia:
Originally built at 127 Yamate, this private residence was dismantled in 1982 and restored here in 1990.
On the first floor of the Ehrismann Residence, there are Drawing Room, Dining and Living Room, Sun Room, etc. Even some of the furniture here was also designed by Raymond himself. The three bedrooms on the second floor have been converted to Exhibition Rooms for the Yamate Western-style Buildings, and these old Western-style houses and mansions are presented to the audience through models and photographs.
