Fort Canning Park

Urban Hilltop Historic Battery

Located on the north bank of the Singapore River, Fort Canning Park is a lush green park with many monuments. Historically, the British built forts and batteries at the top of Fort Canning Hill, and today you can still see the fort gates, the mottled walls and the British cannons in the park.

Located on the north bank of the Singapore River, Fort Canning Park is lined with winding paths and lush greenery. According to the architectural style and plants, Fort Canning Park can be divided into Raffles Garden, Artisan’s Garden, Spice Garden, Sculpture Garden and other areas.

Fort Canning Park is full of monuments, and in 1859 the British army had Built a Fort and Battery on top of the hill to enhance the security of the nearby waters. Today, when you visit Fort Canning Park, you can still see the Fort Gate, Ramparts at the top of the hill, and British Barracks (Fort Canning Centre).

Manywhere Tips:
The British forces held Singapore for just seven days in 1942 before a hastily surrender. This largest scale surrender in history is still considered one of the stains of British military history, with 130,000 British troops becoming prisoners of war, most of whom were sent to Thailand to build the infamous Death Railway.

A Spiral Staircase on the north side of the park has become a popular attraction and Instagram hotspot in recent years, and you even have to wait in lines to get a photo with it alone.

Every weekend, many local residents come to the open space of Fort Canning Park to get together. If that’s not enough, there’s the Nearby Clarke Quay for a late night of drinks and parties.
