A National Landmark By the Danube
The 268-meter-long neo-Gothic Hungarian Parliament Building is the largest building in the country, located on the bank of the Danube, with a massive dome and numerous spires. The lavishly decorated interior features a domed central hall, Assembly hall and the Prime Minister's office.
The Hungarian Parliament Building (Országház) is the largest building in Hungary and currently the second largest parliamentary building in Europe. Built in the early 20th century, the building is an icon and symbol of Hungary, with a Neo-Gothic Exterior Design, a massive dome and numerous spires.
Located on the east bank of the Danube, the Hungarian Parliament Building is 268 meters long, and you have to head across the river to the Buda Castle district to get a full view of it. It is even more magnificent and glorious when you see the Parliament Building at Night with its reflection in the water.
The Main Entrance of the Building is located on the backside, with two crouching majestic lions. The Kossuth Square in front of the gate, is patrolled by guards on duty, and the occasional passing No.2 Yellow Tram looks perfect with the square and the Parliament Building as its background.
To pay tribute to Hungary’s national heroes and famous leaders, several monuments have been built around the Parliament Building, including the Kossuth Monument on the north side of the square, the monument to Prime Minister István, and the Andrássy Gyula statue outside the south gate.

The extensive use of gilded decorations on the Hungarian Parliament Building, with 40 kilograms of gold, is one of the reasons why the final construction cost doubled the budget.
Enter the Hungarian Parliament Building, you can see a stairway that leads to the heart of the building, the central dome hall, which is the first completed part of the Hungarian Parliament Building. At the top of the circular colonnade are sculptures of the Hungarian kings and rulers of the Habsburg dynasty. The hall also houses and exhibits Hungary’s national treasures: the Holy Crown of Hungary, The Scepter, The Sword, and The Orb.
In the two wings of the Parliament Building, there are two identical parliament halls on the opposing sides of the building, the Parliament Hall and the Hungarian Assembly Hall. Besides, the Parliament Building also houses the office of the Hungarian Prime Minister.
