Located in the heart of Old Malacca, Jonker Walk, or Jonker Street 雞場街, is known as the Malacca Chinatown along with several other streets in its vicinity.

Jonker Street has numerous Chinese Guild Halls and Temples and other historical monuments, such as the Fujian Guild Hall, Hainan Guild Hall, Guanyin Hall, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple and Siang Lin See Temple. In 2008, Malacca Street was added to the World Heritage List and the street was also included in the heritage protection. A Jonker Walk World Heritage Park can be found in Jonker Street to commemorate this memorable moment in history.

Every Friday to Sunday evening, Melaka hosts the Grand Night Market at Jonker Walk. At that time, the night market vendors and tourists always jam the street, making it a sea of snacks, fruits and local specialties.

From the hustle and bustle of Jonker Walk to the adjacent alleys, the Street Graffiti Artworks on the old, drab walls are something you won’t miss. This contemporary style of pop art strings together a hundred years of Chinese culture and restores the old city to its former glory as the capital of the Straits of Malacca.
