Kyushu National Museum

One of Japan's 4 National Museums

The Kyushu National Museum is the fourth national museum in Japan, after Tokyo, Nara and Kyoto. Located next to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, the museum tells the story of Japan's cultural exchanges with Asia and Europe under the theme "Ocean Ways, Asian Paths".

The Kyushu National Museum 九州国立博物館, adjacent to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine 太宰府天満宮, was opened in 2005 and is one of the most important museums in Japan after Tokyo National Museum, Nara National Museum, and Kyoto National Museum. It is The Fourth National Museum in Japan.

The Kyushu National Museum is a modern building with an all-glass facade, and the Museum Lobby is 160 meters long and 80 meters wide, capable of holding a soccer field, with a maximum roof height of 36 meters from the ground. The magnificent Kazari-Yama Decorative Float 飾り山笠 in the hall is the main attraction of Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival.

The Cultural Exchange Hall of Kyushu National Museum is themed with Ocean Ways, Asian Paths and tells the story of Japan’s cultural exchange with China, Korean Peninsula, other regions of Asia and Europe from five different historical eras. The museum also has an auditorium, a special exhibition area, restaurants, and shops.
