Past Days of Lanna Kingdom
The Lanna Folklife Museum was converted from the former Chiang Mai Court. The museum has more than ten exhibition halls to show the history and culture of the Lanna Kingdom from different aspects such as Buddhist beliefs, painting, music, weaving, and so on, and to restore the lives of the Lanna people.
The Lanna Folklife Museum is located inside a White Colonial Style Building, facing the Three Kings Monument. Originally the site of the Chiang Mai Court, it was converted into a museum and opened to the public in 2012.
The Kingdom of Lanna is an ancient historical state in northern Thailand that existed for nearly five hundred years before being annexed by Siam. With Chiang Mai as its capital, Lanna’s people have Devout Buddhist Faith and Superb Handicraft Skills.

The Kingdom of Lanna once had four major cities: Chiang Mai, Chiang Hung, Kengtung and Luang Prabang, which now belong to Thailand, China, Myanmar and Laos respectively.
There are more than a dozen galleries in the Lanna Folklife Museum’s two floors of exhibition space. From Buddhist Art, Paintings, music, weaving and other aspects, the museum shows the history and culture of Lanna Kingdom of Lanna, and the recreation of Life of Lanna people.
There is also a blue wooden house near the museum, called Chiang Mai House of Photography, which hosts occasional photography exhibitions on a variety of topics.
