The Museum Square, or Museumplein, located in the south of Amsterdam city, is the most popular public space in Amsterdam. On the Museum Square's Great Lawn, you can see a large number of sunbathing citizens and tourists every day.
Museum Square is surrounded by several large museums, such as the Rijksmuseum (National Museum), the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum (Municipal Museum Amsterdam), the Diamond Museum, etc., which gave the square its name.
The Rijksmuseum is located in the northeast of the square and houses numerous world-class treasures, including Rembrandt’s masterpiece “The Night Watch”. Near the Pond in front of the museum, the original “I Amsterdam” sign, which was popular with tourists, was removed in 2018.
