The National Museum of China is located on the east side of Tiananmen Square, next to Chang’an Street. The museum building was built in 1958 and, like the Great Hall of the People 人民大会堂, is one of China’s Ten Buildings for the Tenth Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China. In 2003, The National Museum of China is officially open, merged by two great museums here, which were the Museum of Chinese History and the Museum of Chinese Revolution.
The National Museum of China is not only known as it ranks first in the world in terms of Floor Area, but also its huge collection of Chinese treasures. Houmuwu Square Cauldron 后母戊鼎 is the most heavily weighted bronze vessel ever found, and who would have thought that the Shang dynasty would have achieved such mastery of bronze casting more than three thousand years ago.
Manywhere Trivia:
Houmuwu Square Cauldron 后母戊鼎 has been called Simuwu Square Cauldron 司母戊鼎 for the past few decades, and people are more familiar with the latter name as well.
Besides, the Human-Faced Fish Pottery Basin, Song Dynasty Color Painted Wood Guanyin, Dayu Tripod 大盂鼎, Zilong Tripod 子龙鼎, the Square Zun with Four Sheep 四羊方尊…….every piece of them is a top national treasure.
