A Snapshot of the Long History
The National Museum of Malaysia was opened in 1963 and the main building is built in the traditional Malay style. The museum has four thematic exhibitions: Pre History, Malay Kingdoms, Colonial Era and Malaysia Today, as well as an outdoor area with displays of sultan's huts and vehicles.
At the foot of Kuala Lumpur’s West Hill, there is a Traditional Malay Style Building. With two colorful murals in front of the building, showing Malaysian customs and important pieces of history respectively, the National Museum of Malaysia is a repository of Malaysia’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
Opened in 1963, the magnificent National Museum of Malaysia was built on the ruined Selangor Museum soon after Malaysia declared its independence.

The Selangor Museum was destroyed by Allied B-29 bombers in World War II.
The National Museum of Malaysia has four permanent thematic exhibitions: Pre History, Malay Kingdoms, Colonial Era and Malaysia Today. They follow the timeline of Malaysia’s history, starting from the primitive humans in the Malay region, focusing on the glorious achievements of the Sultanate of Malacca, leading the audience to escape the suppress of imperialism and finally witnessing the independence and rise of Malaysia.
On the periphery of the National Museum, there are also Sultan's Wooden House, Historical Transportation and Traditional Musical Instruments, among other more colorful and unique exhibitions.
