The south facade of the New Town Hall is facing Marienplatz, with statues of members of the Wittelsbach family, as well as Gothic spires and other decorative figures. On this side, there is also a 85-Meter-High Tower, where every day at 11:00, 12:00 and 17:00 a.m., the Rathaus-Glockenspiel on the tower puts on a spectacular show in which 32 life-sized figurines representing William V’s wedding scene to the music. The observation deck at the top of the tower offers a view of Munich’s Old Town.
In the square-shaped New Town Hall building area, there are also Six Courtyards of Various Sizes and a Basement Restaurant Ratskeller which opened in 1874, where you can taste authentic German beer and roast pork knuckles.
