Nantai, Faith of Man's Body Mountain
Nikko Futarasan Jinja Shrine has a history of 1,200 years, dedicated to Mount Nantai. The main shrine of Futarasan Jinja Shrine is located next to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, filled with ancient trees, and is worshipping Okuninushi. In addition to the main shrine, Futarasan Jinja Shrine also has the Chugu-shi Shrine, the Okumiya Shrine, and the other sub-shrines.
In Nikko, there are a number of connecting mountains over 2,000 meters high, collectively called Nikko-renzan 日光連山, of which is in 767 A.D., Shodo Shonin founded Futarasan Jinja Shrine, dedicated to the 2,486 meters high Mount Nantai, the highest peak of the Nikko-renzan mountains.
The Daiya River flows through downtown Nikko, and Shinkyo, Vermillion Sacred Bridge is the entrance to the Shrines and Temples of Nikko tourist district.
The main shrine of Nikko Futarasan Jinja Shrine is located next to Nikko Toshogu Shrine, and the Straight Worshipping Path in the middle of a dense forest leads people to the precinct of the shrine. The Romon Gate at the end of the path was built in 1982 to coincide with the 1200-year anniversary of Okumiya Shrine at the top of Mount Nantai.
The main shrine of Futarasan Jinja Shrine is dedicated to Okuninushi, one of the three gods of Futarasan, as the main deity. The shrine blesses worshipers with Happy Marriage, safe births, and prosperous careers.
The main shrine of Futarasan Jinja Shrine has many ancient trees, Parent-child Cedars and the Married Couple Cedars are all hundreds of years old, and they are said to bless the love of couples and the harmony between parents and children. The shrine also has other sub-shrines such as Hie Jinja Shrine and Mitomo Jinjia Shrine.
