Odaiba

Reclaimed Modern Seafront District

Odaiba is an artificial continent reclaimed from the sea in Tokyo Bay, Japan. The Odaiba area is popular among young people in Japan for its natural beauty, sea views, and modern shopping and entertainment facilities.

Odaiba お台場 is a man-made continent in Tokyo Bay, Japan, formed by reclamation. Odaiba is located only 6 or 7 kilometers away from downtown Tokyo, and is known as the “Tokyo Waterfront Secondary City Center 東京臨海副都心” due to its convenient transportation and high degree of commercialization.

The Rainbow Bridge is the main traffic artery connecting Odaiba to the center of Tokyo. The bridge is divided into two levels, the upper level for motor vehicles and the lower level with a railroad track, which also serves as a route for the driverless train, the automated Yurikamome transit system. The bridge also has a pedestrian walkway that allows visitors to climb the bridge for a panoramic view of Odaiba and Tokyo Bay.

Manywhere Trivia:
Odaiba Seaside Park has the only sand beach in Tokyo.

In the Odaiba area, there are a number of seaside parks including Odaiba Seaside Park, Odaiba Park, and Shiokaze Park. The Statue of Liberty in Odaiba Seaside Park was modeled after the Statue of Liberty in Paris, France, and the park’s one-kilometer-long shoreline with clear water and fine sand is a great place to view the Tokyo City Skyline.

Manywhere Trivia:
The Statue of Liberty in Odaiba is not a knock-off, but a certified replica by the French government, and the one in New York was also a gift from the French.

In order to attract people, Odaiba has introduced a number of shopping malls, amusement parks, theme parks, and other entertainment venues, and has become a hot place for Young People in Japan. In 2012, a 1:1 RX-78 Gundam model was built and erected in front of the shopping plaza Diver City, which became a landmark of Odaiba. In 2017 the RX-78 Gundam was replaced by a brand new Unicorn Gundam, which attracted even more tourists than ever.
