Okurayama Viewing Point

Olympic Arena in Sapporo

Okurayama Viewing Point, which was the ski jumping venue for the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games, is now a tourist attraction in Sapporo with a high view. From the 300-meter-high observation deck, you can see landmarks such as Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, and Sapporo Dome.

Okurayama Viewing Point is located in the western suburbs of Sapporo and is also known as the Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium, or Okurayama-Schanze, where the 90m Class Ski Jumping Competition of the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games was held.

The Outdoor Observation Deck at the top of the mountain is a five-minute cable car ride away, and offers a great view of landmarks such as Odori Park, Sapporo TV Tower, and Sapporo Dome. You can also enjoy the view from the Hilltop Lounge, where you can sit and eat ice cream even if it is windy or rainy.

The Jumper in the Air

In the open space at the foot of the hill, there are Executive Headquarters Building, the Winter Sports Museum, the Okurayama Crystal House, and other buildings. The Sapporo Winter Sports Museum documents all aspects of the 1974 Sapporo Winter Olympics, and visitors can also experience the thrill of virtual ski jumping for themselves.

Manywhere Trivia:
It’s a pity that Sapporo dropped its bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics because of the severe damage caused by the Hokkaido earthquake… See you in 2032 Sapporo!
