The Pacific Ocean in the Sink

Located in the Tempozan area of Osaka Port, the Kaiyukan is one of the largest aquariums in the world. The "Pacific Ocean" tank, which is 9 meters deep, houses marine lives including whale sharks.

The Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan 海遊館 is located in the Tempozan area of Osaka Port and is one of the largest aquariums in the world. The Red and Blue Exterior of the building is decorated with various marine creatures, and the Whale Shark Model at the Entrance shows the aquarium’s big star in its heroic posture.

The Kaiyukan sets up its theme as the Pacific Ocean, which occupies nearly one-third of the earth’s surface. The Kaiyukan reproduces the marine ecology of different areas of the Pacific Ocean. There are more than 15 tanks on display, referring to the “Japanese Trench”, “Antarctica”, “Monterey Bay”, “Great Barrier Reef”, etc. The fish, plants and animals in the tanks are also mostly representative of the regions.

Feeding Show

After entering the museum, The Tunnel Tank pulls you immediately into the embrace of the Pacific Ocean. It feels like walking underwater as you watch the colorful fish swimming overhead and around you.

The Main Tank Pacific Ocean locates in the center of the tunnel is three stories high, nine meters deep, and holds 5,400 tons of water. In addition to the largest fish on earth, whale sharks in the tank, there are also Scalloped Hammerhead sharks, manta rays, stingrays, and thousands of sardines. The fascinating huge marine tank is like a magnet to children in front of it.

Manywhere Trivia:
The whale shark is a giant, but instead of being a fierce killer, it is a mild-mannered, filter-feeding gentleman.

In the Japanese Trench, three to four hundred meters below sea level, lives a giant crustacean, the Japanese spider crab. It is also known as the Tall Leg Crab, can reach a length of 3-4 meters from claw to claw.

Swimming Jellyfish

The Jellyfish Gallery at the Kaiyukan exhibits a variety of light-bodied jellyfish from the Pacific Ocean, most of which are transparent and appear crystal clear in the light.
