8 Fuji Snow Water Springs

Oshino Hakkai Springs are eight spring water ponds at the foot of Mount Fuji, where the melting snow of Mount Fuji is filtered through the ground to form the pools, clear and transparent. Oshino Hakkai Springs, once regarded as sacred ponds, was registered as a World Heritage Site as part of the Mount Fuji Faith in 2013.

The eight ponds of Oshino Hakkai Springs 忍野八海 were formed by the melting snow of Mount Fuji over the decades. The ponds has Clear and Transparent Water filtered by volcanic rocks. Oshino Hakkai Springs was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2013 as a part of Fujisan, the sacred place and source of artistic inspiration.

The eight ponds of the Oshino Hakkai Springs are of different sizes and shapes. Except for the Deguchiike Pond 出口池 (Exit Pond), which is far from the center, the remaining seven are all located in the central area of Oshino Village, and they are: Okamaike Pond お釜池, Sokonashiike Pond 底抜池, Choshiike Pond 銚子池, Wakuike Pond 湧池, Nigoriike Pond 濁池, Kagamikke Pond 鏡池, Shobuike Pond 菖蒲池. The Wakuike Pond (Gushing-out Pond) is the most representative spring in the Oshino Hakkai, named after the considerable amount of water that gushes from the bottom of the pond. Okamaike Pond (Cauldron Pond) is the smallest in size, with bubbles constantly rising from the bottom of the water, as if it were boiling water in a hot pot. Choshiike Pond (Pot Pond) is similar in shape to a wine pot. Shobuike Pond (Calamus Pond) is full of calamus, together with flowers that bloom every summer.

Clear Pond Water

Oshino Hakkai Springs were once regarded as sacred springs, and people who come to Mount Fuji to worship will first come here to wash off their dirt before their climbing. There are countless legends about Oshino Hakkai, many of which have been passed down to this day. One of them is that drinking the water from the Oshino Hakkai will get rid of illnesses and disasters, so you can always see Long Queue of Water-fetching Tourists here.
