Park Guell

City Park of Catalan Modernism

Located in the northern part of Barcelona, Park Güell offers a high view of the Mediterranean Sea and the city. Once part of a commercial and residential project, it features the Gaudi-designed colored mosaic Dragon Stairway and the Hypostyle Room, as well as the Gaudi House Museum.

Located in the northern part of Barcelona, Park Güell (also known as Parc Güell and Parque Güell) was originally part of the Park Güell residential project built by Catalan industrialist Eusebi Güell. Güell invited his friend Gaudi as the designer of the project, which is one of the few Gaudi Public Facilities Works, and Park Güell, along with seven Gaudi buildings such as the Sagrada Familia, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Because of the high terrain, the View of the Mediterranean Sea and the City and Gaudi’s ingenious ideas, the decision to build the garden houses in the northern highlands, far from the city, seemed to have been a deliberate one by Güell, Although the talented architect Gaudi built creative buildings such as the Hypostyle Room, the Main Entrance and a creative, colorful mosaic dragon staircase for the garden, the residential project still ended in failure, but after all, it was another of Gaudi’s masterpieces.

Manywhere Tips:
Park Güell was a complete commercial failure, with only two houses built, one of which was bought by Gaudi himself.

The Gaudi House Museum (Casa Museu Gaudí) on the east side of the park was once the model home for the project, where Gaudi spent the last 20 years of his life. The museum features furniture and artifacts designed by Gaudi for the Casa Batlló and Casa Milà.
