Manywhere Trivia:
Campidoglio in Italian is the etymology of Capitol or Capital in English.

Piazza del Campidoglio has an inverted trapezoidal layout facing the direction of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. The square is surrounded by three harmonious buildings, the Palazzo Senatorio (The Senatorial Palace) on the front, and the Palazzo dei Conservatori (Palace of the Conservators), and the Palazzo Nuovo (New Palace) on the left and right.

In the center of the square is a bronze statue of the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius on Horseback, and the star pattern on the ground, which begins with the statue and spreads out in all directions, forms a regular texture, all of which was designed by Michelangelo with his subtle calculations.

Manywhere Trivia:
The statue of the emperor in the square is actually a replica, the original is kept in the Palazzo Nuovo next door.

The Corridor Bridge of the Palazzo Senatorio is similar to the Bridge of Sighs in Venice

The Palazzo Senatorio dates back to the 1st century A.D., it was originally an archive from Roman times and has been rebuilt several times, with two statues at the bottom of the steps in front of the Palazzo Senatorio representing the Nile River and the Tiber River. Today, the Palazzo Senatorio has a bell tower and is the seat of Rome’s municipal government. Behind the Palazzo Senatorio is The Famous Roman Forum and the Colosseum.

Ruins of the Roman Empire

The Palatine Hill is one of the seven hills of Rome, 40 meters above sea level. The ancient Roman Forum at the foot of the hill was once the political, power, and religious center of the Roman Empire, preserving the remains of the Arch of Titus, the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Senate House, temples, and shrines.

The identical-looking Palazzo dei Conservatori and Palazzo Nuovo were not built at the same time, the Palazzo Nuovo was built in the 17th century at the initiative of Michelangelo, and its appearance is exactly like that of the Palazzo dei Conservatori on the south side of the square. Both are currently used as exhibition halls of the Capitoline Museums, which houses a collection of statues, frescoes and jewelry from the Roman, Egyptian and Greek periods.
