The Alexander III Bridge (Pont Alexandre III) connects the two banks of the Seine River between Les Invalides and Champs-Elysees. The bridge has been described as The Most Beautiful Bridge in Paris due to its rich gilding and sculpted figures.
To avoid blocking the view of the Les Invalides and the Champs-Elysees, The Alexander III Bridge is almost as low as the water, leaving a single arch underneath for boats. From the bridge, you can enjoy The View of the Eiffel Tower, and the Seine.
The bridge was built in 1896 and named after Tsar Alexander III of Russia to commemorate the recent Franco-Russian alliance. The bridge was completed in 1900 to coincide with the opening of the Paris World’s Fair, providing an easy passage for visitors from both sides of the river.
Manywhere Trivia:
In 1892, France and Russia formed an alliance against Germany, Italy and Austria, only 80 years after Napoleon had taken Moscow. Yes, there are no permanent enemies, and no permanent friends, only permanent interests.
Four 17-meter-high socles on the bridge are crowned by four statues of Gilded Phemes (Goddess of Fame) with Pegasus glowing in the sunlight. The four statues symbolizing science, art, industry and commerce. The Lovely Angels under some lampposts, and the nymphs on the outside of the arches are also artistic masterpieces, making the Alexander III Bridge a dazzling jewel on the Seine in Paris.
