The Santa Justa Lift is the fastest way to get to the hilltop Largo do Carmo (Carmo Square), which can be reached in about a minute. Two Wooden-interior Cars operate in a vertical rotation, taking passengers up and down.

The Santa Justa Lift was designed by the French-Portuguese engineer Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard, who was an apprentice of Gustave Eiffel, the builder of the Eiffel Tower.

At the top of the lift, there is a Open-air Observation Deck Nearly 50 Meters High. The observation deck has an excellent view and is suitable for Overlooking Lisbon from Above. From the observation deck, the Rossio Square, São Jorge Castle, Lisbon Cathedral, and the checkerboard layout of the city seem to be close at hand.
