Sapporo Dome

All-weather Olympic Stadium

The Sapporo Dome was completed in 2001 and is the youngest of the five major dome stadiums in Japan. It is a venue for both baseball and football, with an outdoor football field that can be moved to the dome if required, and a 360-degree view glass observation deck.

The Sapporo Dome, located in the southeast of Sapporo city, is Japan's Northernmost All-weather Stadium. Completed in 2001, it is the youngest of Japan’s five major dome stadiums and was therefore designed with more technology and surprises.

The White Exterior of Sapporo Dome is both eye-catching and humble at the same time. The Sapporo Dome is a venue for both baseball and football, and is home to the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters baseball team and the Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo football club. Team Germany and Team England played here during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.

Manywhere Trivia:
Otani “Sho Time” Shohei, the baseball superstar of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in Japan, is now pitcher and designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball (MLB) in the US.

Guess What This Is? (Answer Revealed at the End)

The stadium has a capacity of over 40,000 spectators, with a Artificial Turf Baseball Field inside the Dome on weekdays. There is also a Natural Turf Football Pitch outside to the south of the stadium. The indoor pitch is dismantled before each football match, and the 8,300-tonne Sliding Football Pitch is slowly moved into the stadium on 34 wheels as the outer wall of the Dome rises, transforming into an indoor football pitch.

Suspended Glass Observatory

The Sapporo Dome has the only Dome Observatory in Japan at the moment. Standing 53 meters above the ground, the glass observatory overlooks the city streets of Sapporo and provides an impressive view of the games inside the Dome, which is a bold but brilliant idea.

The stadium also has comfortable Changing Rooms and Practicing Field for players. Both teams gathered in the Match Entrance to exchange greetings before the game. The moment when both teams walk in, the crowd starts buzzing with excitement, which means another exciting match is about to take place.
