Schlossplatz Stuttgart

A City has been Reborn

The Schlossplatz is located in the heart of Stuttgart's city center and is named after the nearby Altes Schloss and the new 18th-century Baroque-style Neues Schloss. The square is surrounded by many attractions, while the adjacent King Street is a well-known shopping street.

As the Heart of Stuttgart, Schlossplatz witnesses the history of Stuttgart, and this area is the most important commercial center of the region. The adjacent streets are the bloodline that transports people to the Schlossplatz, providing the city with a constant source of vitality.

The Schlossplatz, or the Palace Square, is the most crowded part of Stuttgart and is surrounded by the Altes Schloss (Old Castle), the Neues Schloss (New Palace), the King Street, and the Stuttgart Art Museum, offering visitors a variety of options and making itself a must-visit destination.

The Neues Schloss on the east side of the Schlossplatz was built at the end of the 18th century. The Baroque palace was once the exclusive domain of the Württemberg kings and now houses government offices. The The Jubilee Pillar (Jubiläumssäule), located in the center of the Schlossplatz, was erected in memory of the former owner of the palace, King William I.

The Altes Schloss (Old Castle), dates back a thousand years. Entering from the Schillerplatz to the inner courtyard of the Altes Schloss, the impressive Renaissance-style architecture makes you want to go inside the Landesmuseum Württemberg inside the Altes Schloss and discover the lives of the dukes and kings of Württemberg.

The pedestrian street running through the west side of the Schlossplatz is called King Street, a one-km-long shopping street with many shops of famous brands. On both sides of the street, you can see the Stuttgart Art Museum with a glass facade and the classical-style King’s Building, where you can do both shopping and sightseeing.
