Shoji Suwa Shrine

Giant Cedar Tree of Shoji

Shoji Suwa Shrine is located in the village north of Lake Shojiko and is a center of faith for local residents. The shrine has only one main shrine, which was rebuilt in 1843. There is a giant cedar tree inside Seikin Suwa Shrine, which is about 40 meters tall and is called "Shoji no Osugi".

Shoji Suwa Jinjia Shrine 精進諏訪神社 is located in a village on the north shore of Lake Shojiko, adjacent to the Soto Buddhist temple Ryusen-ji, and is a Center of Faith for Local Residents. There is only one main hall inside the shrine, which was last rebuilt in 1843. The carvings inside and outside of the main hall are elaborate and detailed, mostly featuring flora and fauna and traditional Chinese stories.

There are many huge cedar trees in the territory of Shoji Suwa Shrine, the most important being the one on the south side of the main shrine. It is called Shoji no Osugi (The Giant Ceder of Shoji), and is one of the most famous trees in Japan.
