Suganuma Village - Gokayama Folk Museum

How Village life used to be

The Gokayama Folk Museum is a renovation of a large Gassho-zukuri house in the Suganuma Gassho Style Village. It is a collection of more than 200 tools and precious instruments used by the local people, which reflect the life of the village in the past.

The Gokayama Folk Museum is a tourist attraction within the Suganuma Gassho Style Village renovated from an Old Gassho-zukuri House. The folk museum contains more than two hundred Tools and Instruments that were once used by the local people. They not only illustrate Village Life in the Old Days, but also the wisdom and skills of previous generations.

Manywhere Trivia:
Gokayama belongs to Toyama Prefecture, while the Shirakawa-go belongs to Gifu Prefecture, although they are not far from each other and have similar cultural customs.

Gokayama Folk Museum has been preserved as it was when the owner lived in the house, and the Ground Stove in the Living Room heats the house and is also the fire source for cooking.

The Second-floor Attic of the Gassho-zukuri house is a spacious and open space where silkworms were raised and yarn spun, but now filled with a wide range of exhibitions.
