In ancient times, China was a sea passage for economic and cultural exchanges with other parts of the world. From the southeastern coast of China, through the Central and South China Seas, across the Indian Ocean, into the Red Sea, to East Africa and Europe, it became a great sea route for China's trade and cultural exchanges with foreign countries.
