In the mid-to-late nineteenth century, the new government of Japan, established by the Restorationists, introduced a series of modernizing reforms that led to the establishment of the Japanese imperial system and a new administrative system. It was an important turning point in Japan's modern history and the starting point for the modernization of the country and its foreign expansion.
