Ryoma Sakamoto was a famous reformist who envisioned a new system of state power centered on the emperor. He prompted Yoshinobu Tokugawa, the last Shogun, to "Taisei Hokan (transfer of power back to the Emperor) " and led to the start of the Meiji Restoration, and is one of the most beloved figures of modern Japan.
