Topography Of Terror Documentation Center

Gestapo and SS Headquarters

The Topography of Terror is a Berlin museum of Nazi crimes committed during the Third Reich, built on the site of the former headquarters of the Nazi Gestapo and SS. Including a 200-meter-long section of the Berlin Wall and the remains of buildings.

The Topography of Terror Documentation Center, a museum in the heart of Berlin that exposes the Nazi misdeeds of the Third Reich, was built in 2010 and the Museum with a Section of Berlin Wall has become a popular place to encounter and learn about Berlin’s history.

The Topography of Terror was the site of the Nazi Gestapo and SS Headquarters and still houses the Gestapo headquarters Underground Cells and other architectural sites. These cells were initially used to hold and interrogate political prisoners, but their function was gradually shifted as Nazi concentration camps were built.

Manywhere Trivia:
Heinrich Himmler, the head of the SS and Gestapo, was definitely one of the biggest architects of Nazi crimes, with Germany commenting on him as “the biggest executioner of all time”.

The museum focuses on the core institutions of the Nazi organization, such as the Gestapo, the SS, and the SS National Security Department, and exposes the evils they committed through extensive Images, Recordings and other Documentation.

Next to the museum’s exhibition hall, there is a section of 200 Meters Long Berlin Wall remaining, which is well preserved and is one of the three main sections of Berlin Wall in the city.

The Iron Curtain

After the Second World War, East Germany built a 167-kilometer-long Berlin Wall on the border between the two German states, which was not opened until 1989. The East Side Gallery, the Berlin Wall Memorial Park and the Topography of Terror are three of the major remnants of the Berlin Wall.
