World-famous Wishing Fountain
Built in 1762, the Trevi Fountain is one of the most popular attractions in Rome and is also known as a wishing fountain. This baroque fountain is located on the south side of the Palazzo Poli and is carved with images of Neptune and messengers. Legend has it that by putting in a wishing coin, you will be able to return to Rome again.

Since some time ago, throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain has become a tradition that tourists enjoy. Legend has it that if you throw a coin into the fountain and make a wish, you will be able to return to Rome again. Later, there were also sayings such as throwing two coins for academic success and three coins for a happy marriage. Coins are purportedly meant to be thrown using the right hand over the left shoulder.

The total amount of coins thrown into the pool every day is said to be up to 3,000 Euros, which needs to be cleaned regularly.
The Trevi Fountain was built in Baroque Style, on the south side of the Palazzo Poli. The niche in the shape of the triumphal arch is carved with Oceanus, a titan, and the goddesses of Abundance and Salubrity aside. Two Sea Horses (Hippocamps) at the feet of Oceanus symbolize the raging and tranquility of the sea respectively. The Trevi Fountain has been featured in movies and television productions such as Roman Holiday and Three Coins in the Fountain.
