Century-old Beer Culture

The Qingdao Beer Museum on Qingdao Dengzhou Road is the first beer museum in China, and it was renovated on the site of the Tsingtao Brewery. Visitors can get a closer look at the Saccharification Workshop, which was installed by the German manufacturer when the factory was built in 1903, and experience the centuries-old beer culture of Qingdao.

Inside the Dengzhou Road Qingdao Beer Street, there is a giant European-style building, which is the first beer museum in China, Qingdao Beer Museum. The museum’s predecessor, Tsingtao Brewery (No.1 Qingdao Beer Factory), was the main production site for Tsingtao beer for more than 100 years, where visitors can not only observe the production line of Tsingtao beer up close, but also taste the freshly brewed Tsingtao Original Beer on site.

In 1903, Germany established the first beer manufacturing plant in Qingdao, the Germania-Brauerei (Germania Brewery), which later became the Tsingtao Brewery. When the Germans built the factory, they brought a full set of beer production equipment and raw materials to China, which is still preserved in the museum, such as The Original Saccharification Workshop. These pieces of equipment were in use since 1903 and continued to work for almost a century until 1995, when a new plant was built.

In 2003, to commemorate the important historical moment of 100th Anniversary of Tsingtao Beer, the Qingdao Beer Museum was officially opened in the original site of Tsingtao Brewery. The museum tells the History of Tsingtao Beer, unveils Beer Brewing Process, and displays Modern Beer Production Line. It allows people to feel the customs and experience the culture of Tsingtao beer.
