Wiener Musikverein

The Celebrated New Year's Concert

The Wiener Musikverein is a concert hall officially known as the Viennese Music Association. Since 1939, the annual Vienna New Year's Concert has been held in the Musikverein, becoming an annual event for music lovers.

Officially known as the Viennese Music Association, the Musikverein was opened in 1870 and is both the home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the annual Vienna New Year's Concert.

Besides the square building’s Unobtrusive Exterior, its gleaming interior and excellent acoustics have long made it one of the top concert halls in the world. The Musikverein currently has six performance halls, of which the Golden Hall (Goldener Saal) is the most important one, the others being the Brahms Hall (Brahmssaal), the Glass Hall (Gläserner Saal), the Metal Hall (Metallener Saal), the Stone Hall (Steinerner Saal) and the Wooden Hall (Hölzerner Saal).

The Golden Hall of Musikverein has been the designated stage for the Vienna New Year Concert since 1939, and its professional performances and first-class acoustic effects have made it a world-famous annual international music event.

Manywhere Trivia:
The Blue Danube and the Radetzky March are performed as twin encores of the New Year’s Concert, which is an almost inviolable tradition.
